THE ELIXIR
If you like to unravel secrets, you will be pleased to know that in the Middle Ages the word Elixir was used for drinks that were attributed to magical and comforting properties. The ancient English apothecaries also used the term Elixir in their special preparations. Since 1815, these Elixirs have been made with pure grain alcohol and infused botanicals, highly valued for their aromatic properties. We currently use the word Elixir to describe everything that enchants us.
In honor of the meaning of the word Elixir, the mysterious apothecary, and the Viana family, which has been producing high-quality distillates since 1922, there was no longer any doubt about the name of our product.

Our London Dry is based on 4 renowned botanicals since 1840 (juniper, coriander, angelica, and licorice) and it is no wonder that they are the basis of the best gins in the world. Based on them, we included 5 botanicals whose notes harmonize with most drinks and exude a magical aroma, subtle, and comforting, typical of Elixir No. 13. Juniper
Juniper is the only essential ingredient in gin: without it, gin is not gin. In manufacture, we use deep purple fruits, ripe, usually whole, but sometimes ground or lightly crushed for better release of their aromatic oils.
Coriander Seeds
The Coriander seed is the second most important botanical in the production of Gin; it holds an aromatic function and helps fix (hold together) the different botanical flavors and aromas of the Elixir. Coriander seeds are small and round, in color from brown to yellow. They give a citrus, spicy and sometimes floral touch, adding body and intensity to the drink.
Angelica Root
Angelica root is the third botanical most used in Gin manufacture. It adds an earthy, woody, dry note, and it is referred as “the botanical that gives gin its dryness”. Angelica root also has a fixating effect, which helps to maintain the integrity of the Elixir’s flavor profile.
Licorice Root
In Elixir distillation, Licorice Root is commonly used as chips or ground; it adds sweetness and a smooth mouthfeel to the Gin.
Star Anise
Star anise is oily and has a strong flavor. In the Elixir it is used with great care to ensure harmony with other botanicals and add a spicy sweetness.
Clove
Clove tastes sweet, woody, and spicy. In Elixir formula adds complexity and sophistication and works well with all other spices. We use it moderately to reinforce the botanical balance of our recipe.
Lemon Balm
In the Elixir, lemon balm is used directly in the distillation, adding citric flavors and light lemon pitch combined with soft floral and herbal notes. Lemon balm also adds a touch of complexity and harmonizes perfectly with the other botanicals.
Lemongrass
In Elixir, lemongrass is used as a botanical directly in the distillation. It adds citric flavors and light notes of lemon combined with ginger, as well as soft floral notes, without adding the bitterness from lemon peels.
Lavender
In the distillation of the Elixir, it adds a fragrant floral note with a hint of pine resin aroma that, in balanced amounts, blends well with the aromatic profile of a superior quality Gin. Lavender is used in small amounts due to its high oil content and strong flavor.
